 My name is Blair, and I have been taking piano lessons from Jan since June of 2024. It was my goal when I started to be able to play piano for my church in both accompaniment and arrangement style pieces. Through the year and a half of lessons, I have grown into this goal and am able to fill the role as piano player as needed in the church service. I have and am getting a little better at sight reading and performing arrangements of hymns. I thoroughly enjoy my lessons with Jan because she is always finding ways to help me understand various concepts of piano, as well as helping overcome my impatience and perfectionist habits.  

Hello, my name is Catherine. I have been a piano student of Jan's for three years. I enjoy Jan's flexibility of different genres of music and how she incorporates technique in the current music piece you are working on. After just three years of taking lessons I feel that I have a good grasp of reading music and sight reading. I also had a goal playing piano for my church and have accomplished that and my fear of performing in front others.

 I have been taking lessons from Jan for about 5 months and thoroughly enjoy her teaching methods. She is incredibly supportive and very encouraging for me to play songs I enjoy. I feel that I have made great progress playing by following her suggestions. I highly recommend her to anyone seeking joy in pursuing their piano playing goals. 

I learned to play the piano as an adult and had been taking lessons four years prior to meeting Jan.  After a year and a half of lessons with her I have learned to relax, to  breathe and maintain better posture, and to listen to the piece that I am playing. She incorporates the artistic with the technical in her lessons.  This has helped me to recognize the artistry of each piece rather than become overwhelmed with the complexity of the notes. 

I've been taking piano lessons from Jan since October, 2024.  I'd been playing for five years before then, but Jan's extensive musical background has really broadened my knowledge and understanding of music.  One of my goals is to play more smoothly and connectedly, and Jan has taught me the importance of phrasing and various techniques.  This has definitely improved my playing and made it more enjoyable.  She has a wealth of music from which to choose but is also open to my bringing her a particular piece I want to learn.  Because she is incredibly patient and takes all the time necessary to make sure I have really learned a piece well, Jan's teaching style makes learning and playing not only comfortable, but fun! 

I had taken piano lessons as an adult beginner for about six months when I lived in a different city.  A couple of months after moving to Cincinnati, things started to settle, and that’s when I found Jan and restarted my piano lessons.  As a working adult, my schedule sometimes gets interrupted by work and personal travel.  Nevertheless, I have taken lessons with Jan on and off for two years.   I love that Jan can identify what I enjoy the most and tailor the lessons to meet my personal goals.   Growing up, I never had any systematic musical training. When I first started, I knew nothing about music theory and could not read notes.  However, through practice, I am gradually improving my sight-reading skills.  I also felt excited when I got through a piece and was able to perform it, not just play the notes.
